There is a program I recently had a run in with. This program is NaviSearch. I don't know how it got on my computer as one day it just appeared, but I do know the trouble it caused me, what it is, and how to remove it.

NaviSearch installed a toolbar, without my knowledge or permission, on my computer which caused my home page to be hijacked. It hijacked my search results too. Then I started getting pop-ups. Not just any pop-ups. These pop-ups refused to be closed or minimized like other pop-ups and I was forced to reboot my computer to be able to do anything. It really cut into my work time. I found out that my web activity was monitored and the pop-ups I was getting were what it thought was relevant to what I was doing online.

I did some research on NaviSearch and found out that it goes by several different names. These names are BargainBuddy, CashBackBuddy, eXact Seachbar, and BullseyeNetwork. It is created by Exact Advertising. I found out that not only is NaviSearch adware, but it is a browser helper object as well. Browser helper objects are also referred to as BHOs. BHOs are known to hijack you home page and searches, monitor your web browsing activities, pass that information on to remote servers, and update themselves without your knowledge.

Removing NaviSearch proved difficult. I tried going to add/remove programs and uninstalling it, but that didn't work. I did some searching and found that I needed to get an anti-spyware program. I also found out that most anti-spyware programs only remove 80-90% of an infection, a lot of times leaving you still infected. That wasn't good enough for me. I wanted NaviSearch completely gone. Then I came across http://www.spyzooka.com/spyware-removal-guarantee.htm. A program that offers 100% removal? I had to try SpyZooka! I downloaded, installed, and ran SpyZooka and NaviSearch was removed. No more pop-ups. No more toolbar. It is just gone. As an added benefit with SpyZooka running on my computer, I'm protected from future infections like this.
